Dedication of Lafayette Road Marker

Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m. in front of the Ripley Public Library, I plan to unveil our newest town’s historical marker celebrating the entry of Gen. Lafayette into NYS on his Farewell Tour [June 3, 1825]. At this point in time, through the generosity of the Ripley Community & Heritage Fund and the Town of Ripley, I have secured funding for a plaque celebrating this 200th Anniversary event. Please note that many townships throughout the state are planning various events, including those in Chautauqua County. I’m very pleased to tell you that Mr. Chris Carosa, author and historian, has collaborated with me and plans to join us for this event. He recently authored the book History Unleashed: LaFayette’s Remarkable Tour of the Greater Western New York Region.
So, please mark your calendars and wish for good weather that day! I will update you as we go along!!!
Thank you,
Doc Hamels
Ripley Town Historian
