A Hero’s Welcome: Lafayette’s Journey to Buffalo, Black Rock, and His Overnight Stay with Peter Porter
This week it’s on to the Queen City! Those finding themselves in Buffalo are invited to come see Sentinel Publisher Chris Carosa at the Black Rock Historical Society Museum, 436 Amherst Street, Buffalo, NY 14207, on Wednesday, May 15th, beginning at 6:00 PM.
This will be a little bit different from his previous presentations. The Society has asked Chris to focus on Lafayette, but also touch on Peter Buell Porter since the Society will be commemorating Lafayette’s visit to Buell’s home on June 7 at the Buffalo History Museum. Carosa’s book, History Unleashed: Lafayette’s Remarkable Tour of the Greater Western New York Region, has several chapters with extensive coverage on the Porter brothers (Augustus and Peter). The Porters bought one of the first tracts of land in what is now the town of Mendon.
Alliance Francaise du Buffalo is sponsoring the event by helping with promotion and providing refreshments.
